Destiny came into town. She had the intention of shooting me. And she did. I had to motivate her. Shoot me. Shoot me. Do it! Haha, I’m talking about Destiny Mata. We wanted to portray mein kampf, my struggle. As unique as it is, this person, you see my art, my notoriety and what not, but no one sees the footwork, you know? The, I ain’t living some fabulous life, I’m living anonymously, in squalor for the most part, riding the VIA bus, coming off the streets. And Destiny is attracted to that type of art, she loves that graffiti art, and considers herself a street journalist, and she likes bizarre personalities. So we both have an affinity for this circus, this beautiful spectacle like no other, at our finger tips, preserved well in San Antonio. So we rode the bus one day and shot this mostly discreetly, spy footage style, except for one guy, the Orejon who was more than eager to show off his tattoos. He made me real nervous. Des used me as a decoy, saying I’m an artist or some shit. So he wanted to see my art. All I had to show was stuff on my iphone. I was hesitant to let him handle my device. After all, this is the hood we’re rolling through, mother fucker was about 6’4” and 100lbs heavier than me. I show him my shit, and a few other guys get curious and start looking too. It was awesome, they all got off on my shit. Not a surprise, but its still a good feeling when the average Joe can give you those enthused looks you see in that shot. I love their expressions. Des edits the footage one day than flies the coup to NYC. She asks me to make a narration for the video. I do it on my phone one night, I was inebriated, and somewhat incoherent. Not entirely pleased with what I said, but I remember trying not to sound condescending towards the unsuspecting people. Its not about that. Its about my reality as an artist- an awareness reflector. I say in the video I have a bad memory, but I am aware. So 2 months later, she finally gets around to knocking this shit out, and here it is. Its not technically superior, but it does convey the splendor and richness of the bus environment. Its like its own ecosystem.
